21-Year-Old Student Dies By Suicide At Sathaye College, No Note Found
A 21-year-old student, Sandhya Pathak, tragically died after falling from the third floor of Sathaye College in Mumbai's Vile Parle area on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The incident, believed to be a suspected suicide, has sent shockwaves through the college community. Sandhya, a third-year student and resident of Nalasopara, had reportedly arrived at the college as usual earlier that day.
She sustained critical injuries from the fall and was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead. The Vile Parle police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched a detailed investigation to determine the events leading up to her death.

Initial findings from CCTV footage show Sandhya walking alone on campus shortly before the incident. However, no suicide note was recovered from the scene. The police are currently reviewing additional footage and plan to question classmates, college faculty, and family members to understand what may have contributed to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Sandhya's family has raised concerns regarding the circumstances of her death. They have questioned the suicide theory and suggested the possibility that she may have been assaulted. The family has demanded a comprehensive investigation to rule out any foul play.
As the probe continues, the college remains in a state of shock, with both students and faculty grappling with the sudden loss.
Earlier Case in Navi Mumbai
This case comes just weeks after a similar tragedy in Navi Mumbai, where a 19-year-old nursing student allegedly died by suicide after enduring caste-based harassment at the hands of his college principal.
The student, a first-year BSc Nursing candidate at a private nursing college in Poyange village, Panvel, reportedly took his own life on June 3 by hanging himself in his hostel room. He was a resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and belonged to a Scheduled Caste community.
Following a complaint from the student's mother, the Panvel Taluka police registered an FIR against the college principal under sections of abetment to suicide and relevant provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complaint alleged that the principal repeatedly humiliated the student with casteist slurs and derogatory remarks, including demeaning comments about his masculinity, leading to severe psychological distress.
Both incidents have reignited concerns over student safety and mental health support in educational institutions, with calls for stricter oversight and more sensitive handling of students' welfare. Investigations in both cases are ongoing.
