Papankusha Ekadashi: Understanding Its Rituals And Spiritual Significance
Papankusha Ekadashi, also known as Padmanabha Ekadashi, is a significant Hindu festival. It falls in the Ashwin month of Shukla Paksha. Celebrated on Sunday, 13th October 2024, this festival is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe a day-long fast and worship Lord Vishnu for health, wealth, and prosperity. Observing this fast is believed to help attain Moksha, freeing one from the cycle of birth and death.
The significance of Papankusha Ekadashi is rooted in Hindu scriptures. After the Mahabharata war, Lord Krishna advised Yudhishthira to worship Lord Padmanabha. Yudhishthira sought to cleanse himself of the sins committed during the war. Observing Papankusha Ekadashi was seen as a way to achieve this purification.

Celebrations begin early in the morning with devotees taking a bath and wearing clean clothes. Yellow traditional attire is preferred. Devotees worship Lord Padmanabha by offering tilak, flowers, incense sticks, and a special meal. This meal is later distributed among devotees as prasad.
Chanting mantras and reciting the Vishnu Purana are integral parts of the rituals. The day concludes with an aarti dedicated to Lord Padmanabha. These practices are believed to bring blessings and spiritual growth.
Key Rituals of Papankusha Ekadashi
Key rituals include offering tilak and flowers to Lord Padmanabha. Devotees also offer incense sticks and prepare a special meal for the deity. This meal becomes prasad, shared among devotees. Chanting mantras and reciting Vishnu Purana are essential activities on this day.
The rituals conclude with an aarti, which is a devotional song sung in praise of Lord Padmanabha. These practices are believed to purify the soul and bring divine blessings.
