Google Doodle Celebrates Lithuania's Independence Day 2025 with National Pride
Today's Google Doodle marks Lithuania's Independence Day. On this day in 1918, Lithuania declared its independence from the Russian Empire. After two years of struggle, they secured their freedom in 1920. The Doodle shows the Lithuanian flag waving, with a message: "Happy Independence Day, Lithuania!"

This Doodle celebrates the first of Lithuania’s two Independence Days: the Restoration of the State Day. On this day in 1918, the Council of Lithuania signed the Act of Independence. This act officially ended Soviet rule. Lithuanians remember those who fought for their freedom.
Independence Day begins with events in Vilnius, the capital. People gather for flag-hoisting ceremonies. They wear national colours: yellow, green, and red. These colours also decorate buildings and homes, just like in today’s Doodle.
Later, families enjoy national dishes together. Popular foods include cepelinai potato dumplings and sakotis, a cake with a hollow inside. If you want to learn more about Lithuania's history and culture, visit the Google Doodle blog.
