The doodle was created by Mumbai-based artist Shruti Debi. She said she was inspired by the "vibrant colours and rich culture" of India. "I wanted to create a doodle that would capture the essence of India's Independence Day," Debi said. "The door is open to welcome everyone, representing hope and opportunity."

India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. Since then, it has become a vibrant and diverse democracy. India is home to various cultures, languages, and religions. It is also the world's second-most populous country.

Independence Day in India is a national holiday. It is celebrated with parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and cultural events. The day is also a time to reflect on the country's progress and celebrate its achievements.

Google's doodle serves as a reminder of India's rich history and culture. It is a fitting tribute to the country's Independence Day. Today's Doodle, illustrated by Vrinda Zaveri, celebrates this significant day in India’s history.

On August 15, 1947, India gained freedom from colonial rule. The people of India strongly desired self-governance after nearly two centuries of inequality and lack of fundamental rights. Prominent figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose led the Indian independence movement through civil disobedience.

The perseverance and sacrifices of the country's freedom fighters paid off. On Independence Day, many attend flag-raising ceremonies, parades, musical performances, and community rallies to celebrate.

Homes, buildings, streets, and cars are decorated with the saffron, white, and green national flag — as seen in today’s artwork. Millions of citizens sing the Indian national anthem, Jana Gana Mana (जन गण मन), throughout the festivities as well.

Happy Independence Day, India!
