Eid 2025: Moon Sighting in Saudi Arabia – Will Eid al-Fitr Fall on March 30 or 31?
As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, Muslims around the world eagerly anticipate the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. The festival, which marks the end of fasting, is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, signifying the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal. With Eid 2025 approaching, all eyes are on the skies to confirm the official date of the festival.
Moon Sighting and Expected Eid Dates
The sighting of the crescent moon plays a crucial role in determining the exact date of Eid al-Fitr. In Saudi Arabia, if the moon is sighted on the evening of March 29, Eid will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30. However, if the moon is not visible on that night, the festival will be observed on Monday, March 31.

Similarly, in India, if the moon is seen on March 30, Eid celebrations will take place on March 31. If not, the festival will be celebrated a day later, on April 1. Since the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, official announcements confirming Eid dates will only be made after moon sighting reports from religious authorities.
Ramadan Start Dates in India and Saudi Arabia
Ramadan 2025 commenced in India on Sunday, March 2, following the crescent moon sighting on March 1. In Saudi Arabia, Ramadan began a day earlier, on March 1. This one-day difference is common due to variations in moon sighting across different geographical regions, which also impacts the date of Eid celebrations.
Eid al-Fitr 2025 Dates Across the Globe
- South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh):The moon sighting is expected on March 30, determining whether Eid falls on March 31 or April 1.
- Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait): The moon sighting is anticipated on March 29, with Eid likely on March 30 or March 31.
- United States and Western Countries: The exact date of Eid will depend on local moon sightings, with official announcements influenced by observations from Saudi Arabia.
As Muslims worldwide await confirmation, preparations for Eid al-Fitr, including prayers, feasts, and charitable acts, continue in full swing, fostering unity and joy among communities.
