Diwali 2024 Lucky Or Not: Why Spotting A Lizard On Diwali Could Bring You Good Luck!
Diwali, one of India's most significant festivals, is associated with cleaning, Lakshmi Puja, and new beginnings. As families clean their homes, they often try to remove unwanted creatures like lizards, rats, and cobwebs.
However, according to several beliefs, especially during Diwali, spotting a lizard may actually be a sign of good fortune.

Shubham Tiwari, the priest of Shri Sachcha Akhileshwar Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh, shared that seeing a lizard during Diwali is considered an auspicious omen, as reported by News 18. It is believed that from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, lizards are rarely seen. If a lizard appears on the night of Dhanteras or Diwali, it is viewed as a symbol of the arrival of Goddess Mahalakshmi, bringing happiness, prosperity, and wealth into the household.
From a religious perspective, the sighting of a lizard on Diwali is said to ensure that there will be no shortage of wealth throughout the year. It is believed to offer relief from financial troubles and bless the household with happiness and success. Therefore, rather than panic at the sight of a lizard during Diwali, one should consider it an encouraging sign, as per media reports.
Other Auspicious Creatures on Diwali
Aside from lizards, other animals like rats, moles, black ants, and cats are also considered lucky if spotted during Diwali. For example, the sight of a mole rat on Diwali is thought to please Lord Kuber, the god of wealth, bringing financial prosperity and removing obstacles. Similarly, the presence of a cat on Diwali night is said to signify the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi and a forthcoming period of financial gain.
In conclusion, while many rush to remove these creatures during Diwali, spotting a lizard or any of the mentioned animals can be a good omen. Instead of seeing these animals as pests, they should be regarded as bearers of positive energy, wealth, and prosperity.
