Chhath Puja is a revered Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. Celebrated six days after Diwali, it falls on the Shashti tithi of Sukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. This festival is observed with great enthusiasm in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and the Madhesh region of Nepal. Rituals and Traditions of Chhath Puja

The key ritual of Chhath Puja is a 36-hour fast without water. Devotees offer 'argh' to the Sun God during this time. The festival spans four days. The first day, Kaddu Bhaat or Nahai Khai, involves preparing Satvik Kaddu Bhaat as an offering. On the second day, Kharana, roti or poori and rice kheer are prepared and offered as bhog.

The third day is marked by a full-day fast without water. Devotees visit Chhath Ghat in the evening to offer Pahli arag to Surya Dev. The final day, Parana Day or Saptami, involves giving Dusri Arghya to the rising Sun, known as Usha Arghya. The fast ends after this offering.

Attire and Food During Chhath Puja

During Chhath Puja, women often wear red sarees or suits and adorn themselves with 'Solah Shringar'. Men typically wear dhoti kurta or kurta pajama. Traditional foods include Thekua, Kaddu Bhaat, Hara Chana, Rasiyaw (Rice Kheer) with Puri or Roti (Chapati), and Kasar Ke Laddu.
