Amantran And Adhivas: Celebrating Durga Puja With Traditional Rituals And Cultural Practices
The festival of Amantran and Adhivas is a significant event in the Hindu calendar. Celebrated on 10th September 2024, this festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It involves traditional rituals that are deeply rooted in cultural practices. The festival is marked by the invocation and sanctification of the Bel tree, symbolising the presence of the awakened Devi.
Amantran and Adhivas are essential rituals during Durga Puja. They follow the Kalparambha and Akal Bodhon rituals. These rituals are observed on the Shashti tithi. The Adhivas ritual involves invoking Goddess Durga in a Bilva Tree. This act is known as Avahana, which means inviting the goddess into the tree.

The Adhivas ritual begins with worshipping Devi Durga and the Bel tree. Twenty-six sacramental items, known as mangalik dravya, are sanctified by touching them to Devi Durga and the Bel tree. A red thread is tied around the altar to ward off evil effects. This ritual aims to invoke the awakened Devi in the Bel tree.
How Amantran and Adhivas Are Celebrated
The celebration starts after the Akal Bodhan rituals. The main steps include worshipping Devi Durga and sanctifying twenty-six sacramental items. These items are touched to both Devi Durga and the Bel tree. A red thread is tied around the altar to protect against evil influences.
