West Bengal Police's Special Task Force Arrests Javed Munshi With Links To Pakistan's Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen
In a major counter-terrorism effort, the West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF), in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police, has apprehended Javed Munshi. He is suspected of being part of the banned terrorist group Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM). The arrest took place near Canning in South 24 Parganas district as Munshi allegedly planned to cross into Bangladesh. He is believed to have connections with several Pakistan-based terrorist organisations.
Munshi, known for his expertise in IEDs and handling weapons, has a long history of terror-related activities. He is suspected of killing Shaukat Shah, a notable figure in Jammu and Kashmir, back in 2011. Over the years, Munshi has been arrested multiple times on terrorism charges. Authorities had been monitoring him closely from Kashmir to the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Intelligence Gathering and Arrest
The arrest was the result of intelligence efforts by both Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal Police. Munshi was reportedly planning to cross into Bangladesh on his way to Pakistan. His activities were linked to attempts at reviving sleeper cells and recruiting local youth into TuM. Authorities seized jihadi literature and documents from him, which are now being analysed to understand his network better.
Munshi was captured near Canning Hospital while trying to flee into Bangladesh for further instructions from handlers in Pakistan. During interrogation, he confessed to using a fake Pakistani passport for travel across Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh multiple times.
Legal Proceedings and Further Investigation
Following his arrest, Munshi appeared in Alipore Court where he received transit remand until December 31. He will be transferred to Jammu and Kashmir Police for further investigation. Authorities are examining whether he was attempting to establish a sleeper cell in South 24 Parganas and are checking his ties with local operatives.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to prevent terrorist infiltration and attacks within India. The dismantling of networks like TuM is seen as crucial for national security. The public has praised the STF's timely action as a significant achievement in counter-terrorism measures.
