Suvendu Adhikari Government Launches Fresh Investigation Into R.G. Kar Incident, Three IPS Officers Suspended

The newly formed BJP government in West Bengal, under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has announced a detailed investigation into allegations of police negligence linked to the R.G. Kar incident. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the administration would take strict action against any lapses found during the inquiry.

Three IPS Officers Suspended Pending Inquiry

As part of the first major action in the matter, the state government has suspended three IPS officers whose names surfaced in connection with the R.G. Kar affair. The officers identified are Vineet Goyal, Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta.

The Chief Minister confirmed that departmental proceedings would also be initiated against all three officers. According to the government, the decision was taken after an initial review of reports connected to the handling of the case.

Preliminary Report Submitted To Government

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated that soon after assuming office, he instructed the Chief Secretary to prepare a preliminary report examining the conduct of the police during the R.G. Kar incident.

He said the report has now been submitted to the government, following which further directions have been issued to closely examine the role of the Kolkata Police and determine whether there were any acts of negligence or misconduct during the course of the case.

The Chief Minister said the government intends to identify every possible lapse linked to the investigation and administrative handling of the matter.

Allegations By Victim's Mother To Be Examined

The issue gained further attention after Abhaya's mother, Ratna Debnath, had earlier alleged that police officials attempted to offer her a bribe during the course of the investigation.

Referring to the allegation, the Chief Minister assured that the government would investigate every aspect connected to the complaint. He reiterated that the administration would maintain a strict "zero tolerance" policy in dealing with the matter.

According to the Chief Minister, the inquiry would not be limited only to procedural lapses but would also examine allegations raised by the victim's family.

Government Promises Strict Action

The West Bengal government has indicated that additional action could follow depending on the findings of the investigation. Officials said the administration is committed to ensuring accountability in the case and restoring public confidence in the system.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stressed that the government would pursue the matter thoroughly and ensure that no negligence is overlooked during the probe.
