South Calcutta Law Student Gang-Raped In Guard Room, Assault Caught On CCTV

A horrifying case of alleged gang-rape at South Calcutta Law College has sparked outrage after a 24-year-old first-year student filed a police complaint detailing a brutal assault inside the college premises. The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of June 25, 2025, and involved multiple perpetrators, including a former student and a college security guard.

According to the victim, she was gang-raped inside the security guard's room on campus after rejecting a marriage proposal from the primary accused, Monojit Mishra-a former student and local student leader. She alleged that the act was filmed and later used to blackmail her into silence. The victim said she had been lured to the college under the guise of examination-related work and was locked inside the campus after hours. She was reportedly threatened with violence, public release of the video, and harm to her family if she spoke out.

According to PTI Kolkata Police have confirmed that CCTV footage from the college campus supports the victim's account. The recordings-spanning from 3:30 PM to 10:50 PM on the day of the incident-show the victim being forcibly taken into the guard's room by the accused. Critically, the security guard, Pinaki Banerjee, is seen present but does not intervene. The footage also traces the movement of all key individuals: the main accused, two other students, the guard, and the victim.

Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case: Monojit Mishra (main accused and former student), Zaib Ahmed (current student), Pramit Mukherjee (current student), and Pinaki Banerjee (security guard). The security guard was taken into custody after police noted discrepancies in his statements and his failure to act during the assault. Investigators also suspect he may have played an active role in enabling the crime by abandoning his post and ignoring the victim's cries for help.

Mobile phones recovered from the accused yielded a 1.5-minute video clip that further supports the victim's claims. Forensic evidence has been collected from three specific locations on campus-the students' union room, a washroom, and the guard's room-all of which are being analyzed as part of the investigation.

A medical examination conducted at a government hospital has confirmed that the victim was sexually assaulted. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a deeper probe into whether the attack was premeditated. Forensic analysis of all digital and physical evidence is currently ongoing.

Key developments in the case have confirmed several aspects of the victim's complaint: CCTV footage verifies that the victim was forcibly taken into the guard's room by the accused; the security guard's passive presence during the incident has resulted in his arrest for complicity; and a recovered video clip from the accused's mobile device corroborates the victim's statement. Forensic teams continue to analyze the digital evidence, and more witnesses may be questioned.

The Kolkata Law College gang-rape case has revealed shocking lapses in campus safety and security. With strong visual evidence, corroborative medical reports, and multiple arrests already made, the investigation is proceeding swiftly. The Special Investigation Team is expected to explore all leads to determine the full extent of premeditation and involvement by all accused individuals.
