"I Request Doctors To Talk": Mamata Banerjee After Doctors Demand Live Videography Of Meeting

Doctors in West Bengal have been unable to initiate discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee due to a disagreement over live-streaming the meeting. The doctors, who have been on strike since a trainee was raped and murdered at a hospital last month, insist on a transparent meeting broadcasted live to address their concerns.

The chief minister has visited the protesting doctors and urged them to resume work, assuring them that action would be taken against those found guilty. However, the doctors have rejected previous invitations for talks issued by the health secretary, whose resignation they are demanding.

Mamata Banerjee waiting to talk with doctors

"I am requesting, please come and talk as you had requested for today's meeting. At least come and have tea with me. Why are you disrespecting me? I keep waiting, but it seems you don't want to meet. Forget politics for now... I will sign the minutes of the meeting, but there will be no live-streaming. It can happen only after Supreme Court permission," Ms Banerjee.

Doctors' Demands

The striking doctors are calling for accountability regarding the rape and murder incident, punishment for those responsible, and enhanced security measures for healthcare workers. They also seek the resignation of both the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the Health Secretary.

Chief Minister Banerjee has stated that the matter is currently in court and that live-streaming the meeting would violate protocol. Despite her appeals, the doctors remain firm on their demand for a live telecast of any discussions.

The ongoing strike has significantly impacted healthcare services in West Bengal. The doctors' insistence on transparency highlights their lack of trust in the current administration's handling of their grievances.

As tensions continue, it remains uncertain when or if an agreement will be reached. The situation underscores the need for effective communication between government officials and healthcare professionals to resolve such critical issues.
