Fake Number Plate, 3 Local Attackers: Chilling Details Emerge In Suvendu Adhikari Aide Chandranath's Murder

The investigation into the killing of Chandranath Rath, close aide and personal assistant to Suvendu Adhikari, is revealing several critical details that point towards a carefully planned and executed attack.

The incident took place between 10:00 pm and 10:15 pm on a relatively quiet stretch near Madhyamgram-Doharia, where Rath was travelling in the front seat of his vehicle along with his driver.

According to investigators, the attackers had been following his car for some time and appeared to have complete knowledge of the route and surroundings, suggesting possible local involvement.

As Rath's vehicle entered the area near Peyarabagan, a four-wheeler allegedly moved in front and blocked the road, forcing the driver to slow down. Within moments, two motorcycles approached from both sides of the car, and one of the attackers leaned onto the vehicle and opened fire at point-blank range. Police sources say that around ten rounds were fired using sophisticated firearms, with bullets aimed directly at the front window.

The glass shattered under the impact, allowing the attackers to shoot inside the vehicle. Rath was hit multiple times in the chest and abdomen, while the driver sustained several bullet injuries during the attack. Rath was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead, while the driver remains under treatment in a private hospital and is currently on ventilator support after surgery.

An eyewitness who was travelling on the same road described the sequence as extremely fast and shocking. He said he saw Rath's car slow down suddenly as another vehicle came in front, followed by a motorcycle speeding towards it.

The attacker, wearing a helmet, fired shots while balancing himself against the car, and the entire incident unfolded within seconds before the attackers fled.

Investigators believe that at least three individuals were involved in the operation-one in the car used to block the road and two on motorcycles who carried out the shooting.
One of the most significant findings in the case is related to the vehicle used by the attackers.

Police have discovered that the number plate on the car was fake and had been copied from another vehicle to avoid detection. There are also indications that the chassis number may have been tampered with, making it more difficult to trace the vehicle's origin. The real owner of the number plate has already been called in for questioning as part of the investigation.

After the attack, the assailants reportedly escaped towards Rajarhat via Ganganagar, and police teams are now analysing CCTV footage from multiple locations along this route to identify and track them.

Officials believe that the nature of the attack, including the use of automatic firearms, precise targeting, and coordinated movement, suggests the involvement of a trained shooter, possibly hired for the job.

The fact that the attackers chose a low-traffic area and executed the plan with speed and accuracy further strengthens the suspicion of a contract killing. Meanwhile, the injured driver is expected to play a crucial role in the investigation once his condition improves, as his testimony may provide important details about the attackers and the sequence of events.

Despite several leads, no arrests have been made so far, and the police continue to carry out raids and forensic analysis to piece together the case. The murder of Chandranath Rath has raised serious concerns due to its method and timing, and investigators are working to uncover the full chain of events behind what appears to be a highly organised and targeted attack.
