Now, 1,023 fast-track courts to be set up to dispose of pending rape, POCSO cases

New Delhi, Sep 16: Incidents of rape of minors are increasing in the country. Due to poor justice system, the accused are not punished. With 1.66 lakh cases of crimes against women and children pending, the Union government has announced the setting up of 1,023 fast-track special courts (FSTC) across India.

Out of the 1,023 FSTCs, 389 will exclusively deal with crimes against children registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The rest will hear cases of rape or both rape and POCSO cases depending on the need at the time.
