You Will Be Isolated If...: MK Stalin's Stark Warning To PM Amid Budget Row

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the risk of "isolation" if he continues to target political opponents rather than concentrating on governance. Stalin's remarks followed criticism from opposition leaders regarding the 2024 Union Budget, alleging neglect of non-BJP ruled states.

Four opposition chief ministers, including Stalin, boycotted a Niti Aayog meeting chaired by Modi, which led to embarrassment for the central government. The Tamil Nadu administration claimed that no provisions were made for infrastructure projects in their state.

Opposition Criticism and Boycott

The absence of these chief ministers at the Niti Aayog meeting highlighted their dissatisfaction with the central government's approach. This boycott was seen as a significant move by the opposition to express their discontent with the budget allocations.

In response to Stalin's comments, BJP's state leader K Annamalai labelled them as "ridiculous." He pointed out that Tamil Nadu had been omitted from six out of ten budgets presented by previous Congress-led governments.

Finance Minister's Defence

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who faced accusations of bias, defended the budget. She stated that it is not feasible to mention every state in her budget speech. This defence aimed to address concerns about perceived partiality in budget allocations.

The controversy surrounding the 2024 Union Budget has intensified political tensions between the central government and opposition-ruled states. The opposition's claims of being overlooked have added fuel to ongoing political debates.

Stalin's warning to Modi underscores a broader sentiment among opposition leaders who feel marginalized by the current administration's policies. This sentiment has led to increased scrutiny and criticism of the government's actions and decisions.

The situation remains dynamic as both sides continue to defend their positions. The central government maintains that its policies are inclusive, while opposition leaders argue otherwise.
