Yogi’s Swachh UP Abhiyan: Armed with brooms, cops clean mess in police stations

Welcome to new Uttar Pradesh, where police officials don't shy away from picking up brooms to clean their workplaces.

Lucknow, March 31: After taking over as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Adityanath Yogi instructed all government offices, including police stations, to keep their interiors and premises neat and clean. On Friday, news agency, ANI, reported that a group of police officials posted in Indira Nagar and Talkatora police stations in Lucknow cleaned their office premises.

"Lucknow: Police officers clean police station premises in Indira Nagar and Talkatora after Uttar Pradesh chief minister's advisory of keeping official premises clean," reported ANI.

Armed with broom sticks, these cops did not 'shy away' from cleaning the mess surrounding their compounds. The pictures of men in khaki with broom sticks in their hands are rare to see. Generally, cleaners clean office buildings across India. Or, else mounds of garbage lay strewn in the premises of these office buildings.

Recently, the chief minister's cabinet colleague Upendra Tewari picked up a broom to clean his office in the state legislature. The pictures of Tiwari with a broom and a mop in his hands went viral on social media.

A stickler for cleanliness, Yogi had administered a sanitation pledge to officials a day after he took over as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister and asked them to ensure that the pledge is effectively implemented on the lines of Swachh Bharat Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Recently, the chief minister banned the use of pan and tobacco products in schools, colleges, hospitals and other government buildings, livid at the sight of betel juice stained walls of the building that houses his office.
