Yogi Adityanath Hints at Mathura Temple, Invokes Mahabharata in UP Assembly

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a veiled pitch for a temple in Mathura, drawing parallels with the Ram temple in Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwanath shrine in Varanasi.

In a significant statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appeared to advocate for the construction of a temple in Mathura, where a mosque currently stands. During a debate on the Governor's Address in the state assembly, Adityanath drew parallels between the Mathura dispute and the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath shrine in Varanasi, both of which have been at the center of temple-mosque controversies.

Yogis Mathura Temple Hint: Mahabharata Twist in UP Assembly

Recalling Historical Episodes

Adityanath invoked the Mahabharata episode involving the Kauravas' refusal to grant land equivalent to the tip of a needle to the Pandavas. He asserted that similar situations occurred in Kashi, Mathura, and Ayodhya, emphasizing the significance of these places as "lands of gods." He expressed concern about the politicization of such issues and the emergence of vote-bank politics, which he believes lead to controversies.

Allegations of Foreign Invaders and Vote-Bank Politics

The Chief Minister alleged that foreign invaders not only plundered India's wealth but also attempted to undermine the country's faith. He criticized certain attempts after independence to glorify these invaders for political gains, stating that the nation is not willing to accept such actions. Adityanath highlighted the recent consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and criticized the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government for neglecting the development of Ayodhya.

Nandi Baba and Gyanvapi Mosque

Adityanath made a veiled reference to the recent Varanasi district court order allowing a Hindu priest to offer prayers in a cellar in the Gyanvapi mosque, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. He compared the situation to the removal of barricades at the Gyanvapi mosque following the court order, suggesting that Lord Krishna would not be dissuaded from reclaiming his rightful place.

Mathura Dispute and Development

The Chief Minister also addressed the Mathura dispute, where Hindu litigants claim that the Shahi Idgah was built on the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. He accused the previous SP government of neglecting development in Ayodhya, despite the ongoing temple dispute. Adityanath questioned the intentions behind the lack of progress in improving roads, ghats, electricity, sanitation, health facilities, and an airport in Ayodhya.

Akhilesh Yadav's Absence and Family Politics

Adityanath expressed disappointment that Akhilesh Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the UP Assembly, did not discuss the consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, which he considered the biggest event of the century. He also made a veiled reference to SP MLA and Akhilesh Yadav's uncle Shivpal Yadav, questioning why his name was not included in the Lok Sabha candidates list. Adityanath implied that if the family truly believed in Lord Ram, they would not have treated Shivpal Yadav unjustly.

Yogi Adityanath's statements in the assembly have reignited the debate over temple-mosque disputes in Uttar Pradesh. His references to Mathura, Ayodhya, and Kashi highlight the complex religious and political dynamics in the state. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how these issues will impact the upcoming elections and the broader socio-political landscape of Uttar Pradesh.
