Yogi Adityanath On UP Bypolls: 'Ram Mandir Is Our Heritage, SP Tied To Criminals'

On Friday, in a stark critique against the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Yogi Adityath articulated a comparison the country's cultural legacy and the opposition's heritage. Speaking at rallies in the assembly constituencies of Katehari in Ambedkarnagar and Mirzapur's Majhawan, Adityanath emphasized that while the nation prides itself on the Ram temple in Ayodhya, symbolizing its heritage, the SP's legacy is unfortunately associated with controversial figures like Khan Mubarak, Atiq Ahmed, and Mukhtar Ansari who have backgrounds in criminal activities before venturing into politics.

The Chief Minister's comments come ahead of the bypolls scheduled for November 20 in nine constituencies. Adityanath further accused the SP of deviating from the principles and ideals of notable leaders like Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and Acharya Narendra Dev, suggesting that the party has distanced itself from its foundational values. He pointed out that the SP's reluctance to visit the memorial of Maharaja Suheldev was indicative of their fear of alienating their Muslim vote bank, despite Lohia’s birthplace being Ambedkarnagar. This accusation underscores a perceived departure from the ideologies that once defined the party.

"In contrast, before 2014, the leaders of the opposition alliance played with national security and disrespected our heritage. Today, Ram Lalla has been enshrined in the magnificent Ram temple in Ayodhya, a sight that fills every citizen of the country with pride. This is our heritage, which has been repeatedly insulted by the people of the Samajwadi Party," PTI quoted the chief minister.

Adityanath's stinging rebuke of the SP did not stop at their departure from ideological principles. He also accused them of disrespecting traditions, farmers, and the youth of Uttar Pradesh. Highlighting the rapid development and infrastructure progress under his administration, he contrasted it with the SP's tenure, which he characterized as beneficial only to the Saifai family and mafia-associated families. He reminded his audience of the criminal elements once celebrated by the SP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), directly linking them to the murders of BJP MLAs Krishnanand Rai and Raju Pal. Adityanath proudly stated that under his leadership, UP has been liberated from mafia dominance and the terror they spread.

The Chief Minister's comments reflect a broader narrative of development and cultural preservation that his government aims to propagate, positioning the BJP as the custodian of both progress and heritage. This messaging is particularly poignant in the backdrop of the upcoming bypolls, where the BJP seeks to consolidate its influence by drawing stark comparisons between its governance and the alleged failings of the SP.

This discourse not only sets the tone for the electoral battles ahead but also frames the political debate around issues of development, heritage, and law and order. With these remarks, Adityanath aims to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters, highlighting his administration's achievements while critiquing the opposition's track record and ideological commitment.
