Yoga Guru Ramdev Signs Agreement to Buy Turmeric from Bahraich's Farmer Producer Organisations

Yoga guru Ramdev has committed to purchasing turmeric from Bahraich district under Uttar Pradesh's 'One District-One Product' initiative. An agreement was signed with three Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) at Patanjali Yogpeeth. A senior official confirmed that Ramdev will acquire 50,000 tonnes of turmeric annually from Bahraich.

Ramdev Signs MoU for Turmeric Purchase in Bahraich

The Bahraich District Magistrate, Monica Rani, highlighted the significance of this agreement. "Bahraich district was selected for products made from turmeric in the ‘One District-One Product’ ODOP scheme," she stated. She credited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's efforts for attracting Ramdev to purchase turmeric from the region.

Focus on Farmer Benefits

The agreement aims to enhance farmer incomes by ensuring fair prices for their produce. Currently, traders from Punjab and Haryana buy turmeric cheaply and sell it at higher rates. The deal with Patanjali Ayurveda Limited Company covers 45,000-50,000 tonnes of turmeric annually, cultivated over approximately 2,000 hectares.

Mihipurwa tehsil, near Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, is ideal for agriculture due to its fertile land and favourable climate. The area produces abundant turmeric, jimikand (Elephant Foot Yam), and green vegetables. However, many farmers struggle to get fair prices for their crops.

Enhancing Turmeric Quality

The medicinal properties of Bahraich's turmeric are superior compared to other regions. To improve quality as per Ayurvedic standards, training sessions are being organised in Bahraich, Lucknow, and Patanjali Haridwar for local farmers. This initiative aims to boost the recognition of Bahraich's turmeric nationally and globally.

The district's natural resources make it a prime location for agriculture. The collaboration with Patanjali is expected to benefit thousands of farmers by providing better market access and prices. This effort aligns with CM Adityanath's vision for comprehensive farmer development.

With the use of Bahraich’s turmeric in Ayurvedic medicines, it will soon get recognition at the national and world level. The initiative is a step towards increasing farmer income and promoting regional agricultural products on a larger scale.
