B S Yeddyurappa, the BJP chief in Karnataka has written to the Election Commission alleging foul play in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections. His letter comes days after cases of voter verifiable paper audit trail machines were found abandoned in a shed in Vijaypura district.

In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, O P Rawat, B S Yeddyurappa has said, " this incident has exposed the hollowness of the claim of the election commission that assembly elections in Karnataka were held in a fair and free manner."

The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, Sanjiv Kumar said that the eight VVPAT carrying boxes and not the machines had been found in Vijaypura. VVPATS are electronically monitored and can be tracked with the six-digit bar code - one alphabet and five numerals. The VVPATS found in Vijaypur do not have the six-digit code. Kumar also said.

He further added that the cases that were found were manufactured by a Gujarat based company, Jyothi Plastics. The quality is similar to the original and it has a general resemblance. It has nothing to do with the election process and strict action would be taken against those who try and create confusion, he also added.
