New Delhi, Jan 03: 2014's first hike in petrol and diesel prices was announced just a few hours ago today when the price of petrol was increased by 75 paise a litre and diesel was increased by 50 paise a litre. The revised price chart would be effective from midnight tonight.

The last hike in petrol and diesel prices were registered on December 20 when petrol price went up by 41 paise a litre, following the government's decision to raise the commission paid to petrol pump dealers and firming global oil rates.

Mumbai will charge Rs 79.52, Chennai Rs 75.68, and Kolkata Rs 79.55.

Similarly, diesel rates were also increased by 10 paise on the very same date due to hike in dealers.

Currently, petrol prices in Delhi account for Rs 71.51 a litre, which will increase to Rs 72.43 per litre, including VAT. Diesel price will go up to Rs 54.34 a litre from Rs 53.80 a litre. Mumbai will charge Rs 79.52, Chennai Rs 75.68, and Kolkata Rs 79.55.
