Yakub Memon Hanged: Indians divided over his execution; Twitter flooded with comments
Bengaluru, July 30: 1993 Bombay blasts convict Yakub Memon has been hanged at Nagpur Central Jail on Thursday, July 30.
Memon was hanged to death at 6:30 am and was declared dead at 7:01 am. His body has been sent for postmortem before being cleared for the last rites.
According to present indications, the body will not be handed over to the family and the burial will take place inside the jail premises after the autopsy report is received.
Yakub Memon, brother of one of the main conspirators of 1993 blasts, was the sole death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
12 coordinated blasts had rocked Mumbai on March 12, 1993, leaving 257 dead and over 700 injured.
After Yakub's execution, micro-blogging site Twitter has been flooded with comments and it seems that Indian are divided over the capital punishment given to Yakub.
