World Cup 2023: Uncertainty Surrounds Opening Ceremony – Will It Happen Or Not?

The mystery around the World Cup opening ceremony has continued as the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have remained tight-lipped about it.

Normally, World Cups formally kick off with a grand opening ceremony which will be a glitzy and colourful affair. Even the IPLs formally take off with ceremonies marked with grand performances from Bollywood and South Indian film celebrities.

World Cup 2023: Uncertainty Surrounds Opening Ceremony – Will It Happen Or Not?

As per the earlier reports, Asha Bhosle, Ranveer Singh, Tamannah Bhatia, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan, and Arijit Singh were going to perform at the event. However, the latest reports claim that the BCCI has cancelled the opening ceremony.

Well, the Indian cricket board has now decided only to have captains meet on Wednesday instead of the grand opening ceremony. It will be followed by a laser show, according to a report in Dainik Jagaran.

The report claims that the board might have a grand ceremony before the India vs Pakistan encounter on October 14.

The captains' meet is scheduled to take place at 7 pm today, according to reports. However, there is no confirmation in this regard and neither the ICC nor the BCCI has given a formal statement over the opening ceremony.

The BCCI has been facing a barrage of challenges in hosting the prestigious event. Firstly, there was backlash regarding the World Cup schedule, followed by venue-related confusion and a ticketing scandal.

The 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup begins on 5 October and concludes on 19 November. Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka are the 10 teams participating in the tournament.
