Women's Power At The Polls: Female Voter Turnout Strong In 137 Lok Sabha Constituencies

Women voters have outnumbered men in 137 out of 427 Lok Sabha seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. This accounts for about 32 per cent of the seats, showing a significant rise in female participation. This increase could influence the election results, as women make up half of India's population.

States with higher female voting trends are crucial to watch. These voters can play a key role in either keeping or changing governments. Bihar and Jharkhand are leading in female voter turnout. In Bihar, 21 out of 24 constituencies saw more women voting than men.

In Jharkhand, women outnumbered men in all 7 out of 14 seats that have gone to polls. West Bengal also shows a similar trend. In 18 out of 25 seats, women voters have outnumbered men. Voting is yet to happen in two phases there.

This trend is not limited to Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Other states with higher female voting include Tamil Nadu (19 out of 39 seats), Kerala (10 out of 20 seats), Assam (7 out of 14 seats), Andhra Pradesh (6 out of 25 seats), Karnataka (6 out of 28 seats), Odisha (5 out of 9 seats), Rajasthan (8 out of 25 seats), and Uttar Pradesh (9 out of 53 seats).

States like Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Puducherry, Telangana, and Uttarakhand also saw higher female voter turnout in some constituencies.

Political analysts believe that women are showing more interest in governance. Ranjana Kumari from the Center for Social Research notes that women are turning out in larger numbers. Women are major beneficiaries of welfare schemes.

Parties like JD(U) in Bihar and BJD in Odisha have benefited from higher female voting. BJP in states like UP and Bihar and TMC in West Bengal have also gained from this pattern. Last year, women voters helped Congress win in Karnataka and BJP win in Chhattisgarh, MP, and Rajasthan assembly elections.

The increased participation of women voters is a positive sign for Indian democracy. It shows their growing awareness and desire to shape their future and contribute to the nation's development. The upcoming phases of the Lok Sabha elections will be closely watched to see if this trend continues.
