Women require NOC from husbands for travelling alone abroad: Travel Agents
New Delhi, Jan 6: In a ridiculous demand by travel agents while processing the papers of a married woman travelling abroad, a travel agent demanded an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the woman's husband.
Employed or financially independent, travel agents these days have these bizarre demand, assuming that women in India should not be travelling without their husbands. They have another excuse too. An NOC is required by more than 30 Muslim countries all over the world.
This came to light when a photographer Mahesh Shantaram posted on his Facebook profile what he and his wife faced while processing the latter's papers for travelling to Malaysia (which was his birthday gift to her).
When the couple were adament not to produce the NOC, the agents argued that it was required in a number of countries. To this, they insisted that their papers be sent anyways and that they are ready to face any consequennces.
A further probe revealed that this was done on the basis of assumptions and did not have any logical explanations. To clear the air, Shantaram's wife asked,
"What if she has no husband?" Pat comes the reply that it should be the Father then. And if he is no more, a death certificate should do.
