Kangana, Hema Malini, Dimple Yadav Among Winning Women in Lok Sabha Polls

In a significant development in the Indian general elections, several women candidates have emerged victorious in their respective constituencies, showcasing the growing influence of female politicians in the country's parliamentary landscape. Among the notable winners are Congress's Kumari Selja, BJP's Kangana Ranaut and Hema Malini, Samajwadi Party's Dimple Yadav, and RJD's Misa Bharti. However, the elections also saw some prominent figures such as Amethi's incumbent MP Smriti Irani and Sultanpur MP Maneka Gandhi facing defeat.

Winning Women of Lok Sabha Polls

Kumari Selja clinched victory in Haryana's Sirsa Lok Sabha seat with a substantial margin of over 2.5 lakh votes. Meanwhile, Bansuri Swaraj, stepping into the political arena following her mother, the late BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj, secured the New Delhi constituency with 78,370 votes. This election witnessed 797 women candidates vying for seats across the country.

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, representing the BJP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi and contesting for the first time, won against Congress's Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes. Veteran actor and incumbent MP from Mathura, Hema Malini retained her seat with a remarkable tally of 5.1 lakh votes. Dimple Yadav, wife of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Mainpuri's incumbent MP, secured a comfortable victory over BJP's Jayveer Singh by a margin of 2,21,639 votes.

Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, won against Union minister and incumbent MP from Bihar's Pataliputra Ram Kripal Yadav by 85,174 votes. In West Bengal's Krishnanagar seat, Trinamool Congress candidate Mahua Moitra emerged victorious by 56,705 votes. DMK's Kanimozhi Karunanidhi retained her Thoothukkudi seat by securing 5,40,729 votes.

The elections also highlighted the success of young women candidates such as Samajwadi Party's 25-year-old Priya Saroj for Machhlishahr and 29-year-old Iqra Choudhary of Kairana seat. Over 30 women candidates have won from their respective constituencies till now. However, this number is lower than the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when 78 women candidates had won.

After a rigorous counting process that began at 8 am and lasted for over 12 hours, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 240 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. This outcome marks a decrease from the party's previous tally of 303 seats.

The results of this election underscore a dynamic shift in Indian politics with an increased representation of women. It also reflects on the changing political landscape where both seasoned politicians and newcomers have made their mark. The victories and defeats witnessed in this election cycle highlight the electorate's evolving preferences and set the stage for future political contests.
