Tricolour painted on her face, girl denied entry into Golden Temple

A girl was denied entry to the Golden Temple allegedly for having an Indian flag painted on her face. The incident was caught on camera.

In the viral clip, a man, who happens to be a guard at the shrine, is being confronted by a woman for not allowing her to the temple.

The Golden Temple guard, who denied entry to the girl, is heard saying, "It isn't India, it is Punjab".The man accompanying the girl then questions "Is this not India?". She is repeatedly heard asking whether it is not India.

Apparently, the temple staff tries to snatch the mobile as the clip ends.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which administers the Golden Temple, has apologised for the misconduct of its staff. However, it said that the girl did not have Tricolour on her face.

"This is a Sikh shrine. Every religious place has its own decorum...We welcome everyone...We apologise if an official misbehaved...The flag on her face was not our national flag as it didn't have Ashoka Chakra. It could have been a political flag," Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee General Secretary, said.

It is common for people who visit the Attari-Wagah border for the Beating Retreat ceremony to get their face painted with the Tricolour and then pay a visit to the Golden Temple. Possibly, this could be one such instance.

Meanwhile, netizens have strongly reacted to the incident and demanded a strict action against the staff who denied entry to the woman. "Pls stop defaming our love, loyalty & our contributions for the beloved nation, our patriotism can't be questioned. I strongly condemn the incident & req @SGPCAmritsar @J_Harpreetsingh Ji to ensure a strict action is taken, Our Guru Sahibs showed us humanity over everything 🙏🏻🙏🏻, [sic]"

"plz take action against the person stopping the girl. This is not fair. He mentioned Pakistan se aye ho !!," another netizen said.

Another netizen pointed out that the criticism is only against the official and not Sikh community.

"We don't doubt or defame the whole community but, wish, rather this explanation you could have tweeted once against that anti India act," the person said.
