Woman succumbs to burn injuries, family alleges dowry death

Faridabad, May 24: A 22-year-old woman today succumbed to her burn injuries here even as her family alleged that she was burnt to death by her in-laws who were making dowry demands, police said.

Lalita, who had tied nuptial knots with Sanoj Kumar a year ago, died today morning, police said. They said her in-laws, who were sleeping on the roof, saw smoke bellowing from her room early morning today.

They broke into the room and immediately took her to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Her brother, however, alleged that her in-laws were demanding dowry from their family and burnt her to death. On his complaint, police registered a case against her in-laws and launched an inquest into the matter.
