Pune Hospital Allegedly Denies Admission Over Rs 10 Lakh Deposit; Woman Dies After Delivery of Twins
Amit Gorkhe, a BJP MLC, alleged that a Pune hospital refused to admit his secretary's pregnant wife due to a Rs 10 lakh deposit demand. Tanisha Bhise, the woman in question, later died after delivering twins at another facility. Her husband, Sushant, serves as Gorkhe's personal secretary. The hospital denied these claims, accusing the family of providing false information.

Despite assurances of an immediate Rs 3 lakh payment, the hospital still denied admission. Even a call from Mantralaya to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital went unanswered, according to Gorkhe. Tanisha was eventually taken to another hospital where she gave birth to twin girls but sadly passed away. Gorkhe urged the chief minister to take strict action against the hospital and plans to address this in the legislative session.
Hospital's Response and Political Reactions
The hospital refuted the allegations and blamed Tanisha's family for misleading information. Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, the medical director at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, stated, "We will prepare a detailed report about the incident and will submit it to the health department of the state. The report will have detailed medical information about the incident which was concealed by the kin of the deceased woman."
Shiv Sena UBT leader Sushma Andhare also criticised the hospital's actions on social media. She claimed that despite agreeing to pay Rs 2.5 lakh immediately and arranging the rest soon after, the hospital remained firm on its demand for Rs 10 lakh. Andhare expressed that if the hospital had shown some compassion, Tanisha might still be alive.
Calls for Accountability and Action
BJP leader and MLC Chitra Wagh condemned the hospital's conduct and demanded severe consequences. She suggested revoking licenses of doctors or hospitals guilty of such behaviour. Wagh remarked on X, "The doctors were supposed to offer support to the woman but they showed their commercial interest only." She emphasised that hospitals run by charitable trusts should not operate this way.
Wagh further highlighted that if this is how someone close to a legislator is treated, ordinary patients might face even worse situations. She called for decisive action against such practices to send a strong message across the healthcare sector.
The incident has sparked significant outrage among political leaders and citizens alike, raising questions about healthcare practices and ethics in hospitals. The demand for accountability continues as authorities investigate further into this tragic event.
