Woman Decamps with Cash and Jewellery on Second Day of Marriage
On Monday, Gurugram police reported an unusual case of marital fraud. A woman allegedly absconded with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and a significant amount of jewellery from her in-laws' house in Bilaspur area, just two days after her wedding.

The complaint was lodged by Ashok Kumar who had been looking for a bride for his younger son. He enlisted the help of acquaintances and relatives to find a suitable match. One such acquaintance, Manish introduced him to Manju who claimed she knew the perfect girl for his son.
Manju along with an accomplice explained that the girl's family came from humble beginnings and did not have any money. To this Kumar responded that dowry was not necessary as he only wanted a suitable bride for his son.
The Wedding And The Disappearance
Kumar stated, "After my family approved of the girl named Preeti, I gave Rs 1 lakh and some clothes to her family." On July 26th, Manju, his accomplice and Preeti arrived at Jhajjar court where the marriage took place. Following the ceremony, Kumar returned home with his new daughter-in-law amidst celebrations which lasted till late night.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Preeti disappeared on the following day while everyone else was away at work. Upon checking their home thoroughly it became apparent that Preeti had fled with Rs 1.5 lakh cash and various pieces of jewelry.
Police Action And Investigation
Kumar immediately informed Manju about what happened but received only vague assurances about contacting Preeti in return. When he tried reaching out to Manju’s accomplice instead he was threatened with dire consequences.
An FIR was promptly registered against Preeti, Manju and the unnamed accomplice at Bilaspur police station on Sunday. A senior police officer confirmed the development and added that a thorough investigation is underway to bring the culprits to justice.
In conclusion, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of blindly trusting intermediaries in arranged marriages. It underscores the importance of conducting thorough background checks before proceeding with any marital arrangements. The authorities are determined to solve this case swiftly and ensure that such incidents do not deter people from pursuing arranged marriages, which remain an integral part of Indian society.
