Withdrawal of troops by China from Doklam is a triumph for Indian diplomacy: Shashi Tharoor
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday congratulated Indian diplomacy in the wake of withdrawal of troops by China from Doklam region.Tharoor also congratulated Ministry of External Affairs and PMO for the same.
"Congratulate MEA for triumph of its diplomacy in getting the Chinese to stand down and return to the status quo ante," said Shashi Tharoor speaking to reporters.
"MEA, professionals on the staff and leadership from PM's office, all deserve full credit and applause from all thinking Indians," he added.
Almost two and a half months after the start of a standoff between their troops at Doklam, India and China Monday decided to de-escalate and withdraw their soldiers from the site at the trijunction with Bhutan.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued two statements through the day and in its second statement in the evening, it was made clear that both sides had withdrawn their troops.
This disengagement comes a week before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Xiamen in China for the BRICS summit from September 3 to 5.
