With An Eye On Delhi Elections, AAP To Stay Out Of Maharashtra, Jharkhand Polls
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to stay out of the upcoming Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly polls to concentrate its efforts on the Delhi elections. This strategy stems from a desire to avoid dispersing the anti-BJP vote across multiple fronts, which could potentially confuse voters in these states.
Sources close to the party told ANI that while there is an interest in Maharashtra for organizational growth, the leadership is leaning towards not participating in the elections there.

Sandeep Pathak, the National General Secretary (Organisation) of AAP, and a Rajya Sabha MP, spearheaded a meeting on October 11 aimed at booth preparation for the Delhi elections at the party's headquarters. This session saw the attendance of office bearers from the state level down to booth levels, demonstrating the party's approach to its election strategy.
During this meeting, Pathak encouraged the party workers, highlighting the importance of fortifying each booth in the state and bolstering the party's already solid organization in Delhi, the report added.
Focusing on Delhi's Strengths
The emphasis on Delhi is not just about electoral strategy but also about preparing against potential challenges. Pathak underscored the anticipation of BJP's strategies against AAP, urging party workers to stay focused on their commitment to the welfare of Delhi's residents and not to be swayed by opposition tactics.
This focus is crucial as the party gears up for the assembly polls expected in early 2025, where AAP aims to replicate or surpass its impressive performance from the 2020 elections. In those elections, AAP secured a commanding victory, winning 62 of the 70 seats, with the BJP managing to secure only eight seats.
Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of AAP, recently echoed a similar sentiment of vigilance and hard work in the lead-up to the next assembly polls. Addressing municipal councillors in Delhi, he highlighted the importance of not taking elections lightly and learning from past experiences. Specifically, he referred to the Haryana election results as a cautionary tale against overconfidence, stressing that every election and seat poses a challenge.
This approach reflects a broader strategy within AAP to consolidate its power base in Delhi while fostering the growth of the INDIA Bloc, a coalition aimed at strengthening the opposition's hand. The decision to potentially forego participation in the Maharashtra and Jharkhand polls underscores AAP's prioritization of resources and focus on elections where they hold a significant advantage or have strategic interests.
