Will take care of your mother: Cong's Alvi to Modi; BJP cries 'cheap'

Narendra Modi
New Delhi, May 8: Congress leader Rashid Alvi, in a sarcastic letter to BJP, offered to take care of his mother who travels to the voting booth in an auto and resides in a 8X8 room when her son has a penchant for "private jet travel, Mont Blanc pens and designer watches".

The BJP replied to the letter saying it was a "cheap shot", emphasizing that Mr Alvi's note "mocks the great sacrifice" of Modi's family in his decision to dedicate himself to the nation.

The attack got even more personal when Alvi brought in Modi's repeated statements that his mother worked in the neighboring houses to raise him up and that her status remains the same when her son lives lavishly. He further referred to Modi's asset declaration of 1.25 crores and said,"despite so much wealth, why did he not provide better facilities to his mother?". He further added,"Your mother is like my mother. I may not be as resourceful as you are,"Mr Alvi said, seeking permission to look after her.

The exchange of these words come during the days of campaigns before the Lok Sabha elections where Narendra Modi is leading his party to the top seat of the country. While the penultimate phase has come to an end, the last phase would take place on May 12 and the results would be out on May 16.
