Why Two-Wheelers Have Been Banned On Ram Jhula Bridge In Rishikesh
Uttarakhand's authorities announced on Thursday a comprehensive prohibition on the movement of two-wheelers on the renowned Ram Jhula Bridge in Rishikesh. This decision comes in response to substantial damage observed on the bridge's support wires caused by incessant rainfall over the past few days.
Confirming the development, an official stated that the Pauri police and other relevant authorities are implementing stringent measures to prevent any two-wheeler activity on the bridge, which is already in a fragile state due to the heavy rains.

The official further explained that the bridge has suffered several damages, including wire and flooring issues, prompting the authorities to take action. Amid the flood-like conditions in Rishikesh, where the water level has risen above the danger mark, the administration has advised the public to steer clear of the Ganga river vicinity.
This isn't the first instance of a ban on movement at Ram Jhula Bridge. In the previous year, a similar situation arose when the administration halted movement on the bridge after a team of experts highlighted significant loss of parts and structural integrity concerns.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Rishikesh. He also deployed a team of experts, including NDRF and SDRF personnel, to the areas worst hit by the heavy rains, instructing them to assist the general public.
