Why Is Haryana’s Nuh Tense Again? Top Points
Stringent security measures are being implemented in anticipation of a religious procession in Nuh, Haryana, despite authorities denying permission for the event.
The procession, known as a shobha yatra, was due to take place on 28 August, the final Monday of the holy month of Shravan. It was organised by the Sarv Jatiya Hindu Mahapanchayat, a Hindu group.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), another Hindu group, has said it intends to go ahead with the procession, arguing that no permission is required for religious events. However, the authorities have refused to grant permission.
The call for the shobha yatra comes after clashes on 31 July, which left six people dead. A VHP procession was attacked by a group of people, and the violence spread to the neighbouring city of Gurugram.
Here are the Top updates:
- In response to the VHP's call, the police have deployed significant forces, including 30 companies of paramilitary personnel. Security measures have been stepped up at inter-state and inter-district borders, and CCTV cameras have been installed.
- The police have also set up multiple barricades at various points, and are conducting thorough vehicle checks on people entering Nuh. Identity verification of local residents is being carried out, and outsiders are barred from entering the town due to prohibitory orders.
- As a precaution, the Nuh district administration has ordered the closure of educational institutions and banks on Monday. Mobile internet and bulk SMS services have been suspended, and prohibitory orders (Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code) are in place until Monday.
- The denial of permission for the shobha yatra is attributed to a scheduled G20 Sherpa Group meeting from 3 to 7 September, as well as the need to maintain law and order after the violence on 31 July.
- Despite the lack of permission, the VHP has said it will go ahead with the procession. They plan to shorten the route, but have said they are committed to completing it peacefully.
- Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has suggested that people offer prayers at local temples instead of participating in the shobha yatra. He has emphasized the state government's commitment to maintaining law and order.
- The Board of School Education, Haryana, has postponed the diploma in elementary education exam in Nuh to 4 September from its original date of Monday.
- Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata has deployed executive magistrates at key locations to maintain law and order during the shobha yatra. He has urged local people to cooperate with the authorities.
