Why AR Rahman's concert in Pune was stopped by cops?

A concert of two-time Oscar Award-winning musician AR Rahman was stopped while the crowd was fully enjoying his performance on Sunday evening in Pune.

The musical evening was halted by the cops as he continued to perform beyond the permissible time of 10 pm, according to ANI. The event was held at Raja Bahadur Mill area.

Why AR Rahmans concert in Pune was stopped by cops?

In the video doing rounds online, a cop is seen asking AR Rahman and his band to end the concert. He is seen singing 'Chaiya Chaiya' song from his hit movie 'Dil Se' before the cop's intervention to stop the concert.

"Rahman was singing his last song and while singing he did not realise that it was already past 10 pm, so our police official who was at the venue went and conveyed to him the deadline to be followed as per the SC guidelines after that he stopped singing," ANI quoted Smartana Patil, DCP Zone 2, Pune Police, in a tweet.

The musician was recently in the news when he asked his wife Saira Banu to speak in Tamil and not Hindi on stage. At an awards ceremony in Chennai, AR Rahman, who was standing next to his wife, spoke in Tamil and said, "I don't like to watch my interviews again. She keeps playing again and again and watching because she loves my voice."

She smiled and when she was about to talk, AR Rahman told her, "Don't talk in Hindi, speak in Tamil."

However, she then tells the crowd that she cannot speak in Tamil. "Sorry, I can't speak fluently in Tamil. So, please excuse me. I am super happy and excited because his voice is my favourite. I fell in love with his voice. That's all I can say," she stated.

However, he was criticised by a section of netizens for asking his wife not to speak in Hindi as he attained popularity at the global level because of the Bollywood audience.
