Why a joke on polygamy by Madhavan in viral clip enraged Islamists, secularists
Islamists and secularists are upset with Madhavan over a viral clip in which he is heard saying a joke on polygamy.
Mumbai, Feb 07: Islamists and the so-called secular brigade are upset with Indian actor R Madhavan after a video of him in which he is joking about polygamy went viral.
He is being attacked for alleged Islamophobia in the video as he mentioned the name of a Muslim man in the joke.

What's in the viral clip?
In the viral video, Madhavan tells a joke on polygamy. "He is a very profound doctor, a gastroentologist and he got a call from his patient Mr Abdul and he said 'Doctor saab, my wife is very very ill. She is in big pain, she has a stomach ache and she cannot sit. Can I come over to your clinic?' The doctor said, 'Yes, by all means'. And, like all patients today, Abdul had done his research he has gone to the internet and said usko ye ho sakta hai wo ho sakta hai (she may be infected with this one or that one)'," HT quoted him as saying in the clip.
He then adds, "The doctor asked him not to worry. He checked her, and then told him 'Let me tell you, she has an infected appendix. So I have to do a surgery and she will be fine. The surgery was done and she was fine. Abdul was a happy man. One year later, Abdul called the doctor again and said 'Sir, my wife has got a stomach ache, please do the appendix operation and she will be fine'."
"Doctor said listen 'I am the doctor, let me do the diagnosis, please bring her to the clinic, then we will fix it'." Madhavan stated and highlighted how Abdul urged the doctor to fix an operation date and not bother about the diagnosis. "The doctor finally lost it and said 'Listen I am the doctor, let me do the diagnosis. Every human being only has one appendix and I have already taken out the appendix. So please do not tell me how to do my job'. Abdul patiently waited for the doctor to finish with his assumptions and then he shot back very meekly 'Sir, I agree with you. Every human being can have only one appendix, but a man can have two wives, right?'"
The clip was shared by businessman Harsh Goenka. However, the secularists and Islamist have criticised him as well as Madhavan over the video.
"Ramkrishna Dalmia had just 6 wives and 17 children! He was comparatively poorer than Birla and Tata, however, perhaps, richer than Goenkas. We must talk about each, one after the other, how progressive or regressive," a user said.
Another one said, "Some are cheap despite money & 'education'. Not having 'class' is issue. Level of bizmen'! Stereotypes, engrained biases. Promoting bigotry. Run or block, delete a tweet after exposed. Stammer face to face. 'Okay so you said this', reply 'sir, sir', shivering. Vomiting on SM easy. [sic]"
The third one slammed, "Didn't expect this from him. But as people say - a great actor may not be a great human. [sic]" A netizens stated, "I have many non-muslim friends who remarried when their 1st marriage didn't work out. Some even remarried with a few months. So this 2nd wife story is nothing but an intolerance/hatred. :( [sic]"
"Would you have enjoyed the joke as much if the character was Rama Prasad and not Abdul and would @ActorMadhavan have cracked the joke if the joke was on Ranganathan ? Let me add 😂😂😂😂these emojis to make this tweet hilarious," a user criticised the clip.

However, it is surprising to see how the joke is being blown out of proportion by a section of secularists who loses their at the drop of a hat when there are comments about minorities. The same people are known for remaining mute spectators when it comes to the sentiment of the majorities.
In fact, Hindus' sentiments and beliefs are questioned and insulted by left-leaning writers and filmmakers in movies (especially in Bollywood), but there was never outrage from the left brigade.
Polygamy or the practise of having more than one wife is legal only for Muslims in India. They are allowed to marry up to four women under the Shariat laws. Surprisingly, the leftists and secularists should be speaking more about this issue rather than worrying about a joke.
