Who Was Geetika Sharma? Know About The Infamous 2012 Air Hostess Suicide Case

Geetika Sharma, a former air hostess with former Haryana leader Gopal Kanda's aviation firm MDLR airlines, tragically took her own life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her father's home in northwest Delhi on August 5, 2012. The airlines had suspended its operations in 2009.

In her heart-wrenching two-page suicide note, Geetika Sharma pointed to harassment by Gopal Kanda and one of his employees, Aruna Chadha, as the reasons behind her decision. Aruna Chadha was subsequently arrested on August 8.

The Delhi Police investigation revealed that Geetika had terminated her pregnancies, and Aruna Chadha was aware of these circumstances.

Initially, Gopal Kanda was also booked for rape, but this charge was dropped when the Delhi High Court granted him bail in 2014 for the abetment to suicide case.

The 23-year-old former air hostess, who had left Kanda's company, took such a drastic step due to the "continual mental harassment" she experienced from the minister. Geetika's ordeal continued even after she joined Emirates Airlines in Dubai, as revealed in her old e-mails to the airline.

In one email, Geetika expressed her desire to start anew and escape the harassment she faced. However, in another email on the same day, she revealed being under immense stress and pressure. Eventually, she resigned from Emirates, citing personal issues to be resolved in India.

In her suicide note, Geetika squarely blamed Gopal Goyal Kanda, the MDLR group boss and former Haryana minister, for driving her to such a tragic end. She described him as a fraud, a person who deceives and harasses others under the guise of relationships, trust, and even God. Geetika deeply regretted having placed her trust in him, which she believed cost her life.

Six months later, Geetika Sharma's mother also allegedly died by suicide, and Gopal Kanda was once again accused of abetment to suicide. The case remained shrouded in sadness and controversy, leaving many seeking justice for the young woman's untimely and devastating end.
