How Atiq's wife Shaista, daughter of a cop, went on to turn most-wanted?

'Gangster Queen' Shaista Parveen, the absconding wife of recently-terminated gangster Atiq Ahmed, is now on the most-wanted list of Uttar Pradesh Police. Earlier this month, the cops increased the reward amount for the fugitive Parveen from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.

Marriage changed Parveen's life

Parveen was altogether a different woman before her marriage to Atiq in 1996. She had no links with the crime world. However, everything changed once she tied the knot with the gangster.

Who is Shaista Parveen, now the most-wanted person in UP cops list?

As far as her educational qualification is concerned, she completed Class 12 from a college in Prayagraj and she was a polite student. Her father Mohammed Haroon was a constable and she was settled in Damupur village. She was the eldest in her family of four sisters and two brothers, according to a report in The Times of India.

Parveen had five sons and one of them, Asad, was killed in an encounter by the cops last week in Jhansi. Whenever her husband went to jail, she used to reportedly manage his underworld activities.

Why the cops are after her

There are four cases filed against Shaista - 3 cheating cases, filed under different Sections way back in 2009, and a murder case that of Umesh Pal. She had met her husband in jail to discuss about eliminating Umesh Pal.

"For this, Atiq had asked her to send a phone and a SIM card to him inside jail. He had also told her the name of a cop who would deliver the phone to him in prison. Days later, the phone was sent and Atiq used it to speak to shooters and plot the crime," the daily quoted police sources as saying.

A relative of Atiq, Mohammad Jishan had revealed recently that the gangster had once forced him to transfer his properties to Parveen. "Atiq sent his son Ali accompanied by 25 shooters to my house to transfer the land in Shaista Parveen's name and demanded Rs 5 crore in extortion," ANI quoted him as saying.

Opening up on the ordeal, he said, "Ali told me that his father wants to talk to me, while everyone aimed their rifles at me. Atiq, on the other side of the call, demanded Rs 5 crore and put pressure on me to transfer my land to Shaista."

She had also forayed into politics by joining AIMIM in 2021. She quit the party and joined the BSP in 2023. She wanted to contest in mayor polls. However, Mayawati refused to field her in the poll.
