Who Is IAS Subodh Kumar Singh? Appointed As Chief Secretary To Chhattisgarh CM
In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Chhattisgarh government has appointed 1997-batch IAS officer Subodh Kumar Singh as the Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. The General Administration Department confirmed this appointment and issued the necessary orders. Singh, who was on central deputation in Delhi for five years, has now returned to Chhattisgarh.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Singh is a senior IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. He has previously served as the District Collector in multiple districts, including Raipur. Until recently, Singh held the position of Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Steel at the central level. His return to the state was initiated following a request from the state government.

Career Highlights
After completing his Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee, Singh also pursued an MBA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). His administrative journey began in 2018 as Assistant Collector in Mandla district. Following this, he served as SDO of Korea district and was the first District Panchayat CEO of Bastar post the formation of Chhattisgarh.
In 2002, Singh was appointed as the DM of Raigarh and later served as the Collector for both Raipur and Bilaspur districts. Known for his integrity and effectiveness, he played a pivotal role during Raman Singh's tenure, serving as a Secretary in the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Roles at the Center
In January 2020, Singh was posted in Delhi as Joint Secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution. By June 2023, he had served as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). His contributions in key central roles further solidified his reputation as a capable administrator.
Return to Chhattisgarh
Upon his return, Singh promptly met with the Chief Secretary at Mana Airport and assumed his new role. His return is seen as a result of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's request to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a visit to Chhattisgarh.
Administrative Reshuffle in Chhattisgarh
The number of secretaries in Chhattisgarh has crossed 50, making departmental role allocation increasingly competitive. Performance-based appointments have become the focus, with another 10 IAS officers expected to be promoted to Secretary roles soon.
Singh's return marks a renewed emphasis on performance-driven governance. Known for delivering results, Singh's appointment highlights the state's intent to prioritise efficiency in administration while fostering development.
