Who was Asad, son of Atiq Ahmed killed in an encounter with UP police

Jailed gangster, Atiq Ahmed's son, Asad was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh police. The police have also recovered sophisticated foreign-made weapons from the encounter site.

Asad had a Rs 5 lakh bounty on his head and was killed in the encounter at Jhansi by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF). Another person Ghulam who also had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was also killed in the encounter that was led Nabendu and Vimal, both deputy SPs in the UP STF.

Both the accused were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case. Pal was a key witness in the murder of Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) leader Raju Pal. On February 24, Pal was shot dead in Prayagraj's Sulem Sara area. He was shot several times and bombs were also hurled at him and his guards.

The killing comes at a time when Atiq Ahmed and his brother were produced before a court in Prayagraj.

Asad is the son of gangsgter-turned politician Atiq Ahmed. On April 9, the Delhi police had arrested three persons in connection with aiding Asad who was instrumental in orchestrating the Pal murder. The three accused persons were accused of harbouring Assad following the Pal murder.

The name of Ali Ahmed, the other son of Atiq Ahmed had also surfaced ni the same case. There are nearly 160 criminal cases that have been lodged against the Ahmed family. Atiq himself has been named in nearly 100 cases, while his brother Ashraf has 52 cases against him. Atif's wife Shaista Praveen has three and sons Ali and Ali and Asad have four and one cases against them respectively.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal's wife, Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25, the police registered a case against Atiq Ahmed and his family members.

The FIR was lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code which included 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
