While The Kerala Story Continues To Make News, Here Is the Story Of Yasmin Jahid
The Kerala Story has been in the news for sometime now. The movie focuses on the girls from Kerala who were converted and then sold off as sex-slaves to the Islamic State in Afghanistan.
The case relating to the 24 persons who left Kerala to join the Islamic State in Afghanistan is being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Officials tell OneIndia that this is a documented case and the probe is on to find out if more such persons have been involved. The official however added that this is a case pertaining to the Kerala Islamic State module, where a consistent effort had been made to trap as many people as possible and then send them to Afghanistan.

In this context another case that comes under the scanner is the one pertaining to Yasmin Ahmed Jahid. She hails from Biharand was reportedly married to Syed Ahmed. Both lived in Saudi Arabia and in 2011 they came back to India and resided in Kerala's Mallapuram. This place has been under the scanner of the Indian agencies due to a high rate of conversions, which were related to Jihad.
Yasmin then took up a job as an English teacher in the Peace International School, which had 12 branches across the country. These schools were inspired by the Dr. Zakir Naik International School, the agencies have learnt.
In the year 2016, Yasmin married Abdul Rashid Abdullah, who in turn lured an engineering graduate Sonia Sebastin. Sonia according to the probe was forcibly converted, following which she took the name Aiysha. Yasmin and her husband are said to have conducted coaching classes of Islamic Jihad in Kerala. Yasmin, not only conducted these classes, but also brought other aspiring students in a bid to send them to the Islamic State.
During her probe, Yasmin revealed that she had recruited 22 people, including three children and six women. She also said that those persons who were recruited were sent to Dubai, Muscat, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi from the Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports. It is from these countries that these persons made their journey to the Islamic State in Afghanistan, the probe agencies also learnt.
Yasmin was arrested from the New Delhi International Airport, while she was trying to escape to Kabul. While sentencing her to seven years in jail, the NIA judge, Santhosh Kumar said, "considering the nature and circumstances of the case, the court doesn't find any reason to invoke the Probation of Offenders Act. At the time of arrest, the son of the accused was with her and now he is in the custody of his father. However, considering the fact that the accused is a lady aged about 30 years, a lenient view is taken."
