The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Puducherry. According to the official announcement, voting in Puducherry will take place on April 9, while the counting of votes will be held on May 4.

Over Nine Lakh Voters in Puducherry

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar shared details about the number of voters in the Union Territory.

According to the final electoral roll, around 9.44 lakh voters are eligible to participate in the Puducherry Assembly elections.

This includes voters from different age groups, including senior citizens and first-time voters.

Special Arrangements at Polling Stations

The Election Commission has planned several measures to ensure a smooth and comfortable voting experience for citizens.

Across the country, more than 2.18 lakh polling stations will be set up for the elections, with many located in rural areas.

Each polling station is expected to serve around 750 to 850 voters, ensuring manageable crowds and easier voting.

Special features planned for polling stations include:

• Model polling stations with improved facilities
• Women-managed polling stations run entirely by female staff
• Polling stations managed by persons with disabilities
• 100% webcasting to ensure transparency during voting

These steps are aimed at making the election process inclusive and transparent.

Participation of Elderly Voters

The Election Commission also highlighted that several elderly voters, including those aged over 85 years and even centenarians, are part of the electoral rolls.
Special arrangements will be made to ensure that senior citizens can vote comfortably.

Large Election Workforce

To manage the elections smoothly, the Election Commission will deploy around 25 lakh personnel across the country.

These include polling staff, security forces, and election officials responsible for conducting the voting process safely and fairly.

Term of Puducherry Assembly

The current Puducherry Assembly's term is scheduled to end on June 15, which is why the elections are being conducted before that date.

Once the results are announced on May 4, the new government in Puducherry will take charge.

The Election Commission described the upcoming elections as a "festival of democracy," highlighting the importance of public participation.
