When Will Maharashtra Assembly Elections Be Held? Here's What Election Commission Said
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu on Saturday examined Mharashtra's readiness for the Assembly polls. Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of expediting investigations into electoral offenses reported during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, highlighting the need for swift action from state police officials.
Regarding the timeline for the Assembly elections, Kumar pointed out that Maharashtra hosts 288 constituencies, including 25 Scheduled Tribe (ST) constituencies and 29 Scheduled Caste (SC) constituencies. He noted the legislative assembly's term concludes on November 26, necessitating the completion of elections prior to this date. Kumar shared that the state boasts 9.59 crore electors, with a nearly equal distribution among male and female voters and an encouraging number of first-time voters aged 18-19 years, totaling around 19.48 lakh.

To enhance voter experience, Kumar requested District Election Officers (DEOs) to provide clear signages and directions at locations hosting multiple polling stations. Furthermore, he sought updates on the status of FIRs related to electoral offenses from the Lok Sabha elections, instructing the review of all cases involving personnel, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and social media. This initiative underscores the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.
With the Maharashtra assembly's term ending on November 26, elections are anticipated to be declared next month. This upcoming electoral event underscores the meticulous efforts of the Election Commission to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process, ensuring every elector's voice is heard through a fair and orderly election.
