West Bengal: Waqf Protest Turns Violent, Cars Set On Fire, Stone Pelting At Police In Murshidabad

People protesting against the implementation of WAQF Act, engaged in a violent clash with West Bengal police on Tuesday. According to the reports, the incident happened in Murshidabad's Jangipur, where protesters hurled stones at the police and torched several vehicles, including a police van, after vandalizing it.

The situation escalated after police tried to stop the protesters from blocking roads, which disrupted the traffic and created chaos.

Waqf Protest Turns Violent

Reacting to violent clashes in Murshidabad, BJP leader Amit Malviya attacked West Bengal Mamata Banerjee stating the law and order situation has failed in the state.

"The West Bengal Police is struggling to rein in the violent Islamist mob rampaging through the streets of Murshidabad- possibly under instructions from Home Minister Mamata Banerjee herself. Her inflammatory speeches have directly contributed to the current unrest," Amit Malviya said.

Malviya further said that Murshidabad is the same area where attacks on Hindus happened during the recent Kartik Puja celebrations.

Protesters had blocked rail routes, and several trains were brought to a standstill

Last week, Parliament and the President gave a nod to the Waqf (Amendment) Act following hours long debates.

The WAQF Act came into effect from today, Tuesday, April 8.

He claimed that internet services in the Jangipur area were "throttled to restrict the flow of information".
