Central Forces to Ensure Free, Fair Elections in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India is deploying around 25,000 central forces personnel to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election in the three Lok Sabha constituencies of northern West Bengal during the first phase of polling on April 19.
In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, approximately 25,000 central forces personnel will be deployed to ensure a secure and peaceful voting process. The first phase of elections, scheduled for April 19, will cover three Lok Sabha constituencies in northern West Bengal: Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri.

Extensive Security Measures
To maintain law and order during the elections, around 250 companies of central forces will be deployed in the first phase. Each company comprises approximately 100 personnel, bringing the total number of deployed forces to around 25,000. Additionally, control rooms will be established in each district, supervised by senior officers to address any potential issues promptly.
Ensuring Free and Fair Elections
The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, Ariz Aftab, emphasized the state's commitment to conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections. He asserted that no disturbances would be tolerated and urged political leaders to exercise restraint in their statements during the campaign period. The Election Commission will take immediate action against any violations of these guidelines.
Curbing Illegal Activities
Aftab also highlighted the significant efforts made to curb illegal activities related to the elections. As of now, over Rs 68 crore in cash has been seized from various locations across the state. To further strengthen these measures, Aftab will hold a virtual meeting with returning officers on Monday to discuss strategies and ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
The deployment of central forces and the implementation of stringent security measures demonstrate the state's determination to provide a safe and secure environment for voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. By adhering to the guidelines set by the Election Commission and promoting responsible campaigning, West Bengal aims to uphold democratic principles and ensure a fair electoral process.
