Bangladesh's Response

In a widely shared video on X, Mahmud expressed his concerns about Banerjee's comments. He stated, "With all due respect to Mamata Banerjee, with whom we share a relationship of mutual interests... However, her statement has created confusion and has the potential to create confusion among people. Therefore, we have sent a note to the Indian government on her statement." This communication was made through diplomatic channels.

Banerjee's Remarks

During the TMC's Martyrs Day rally in Kolkata on Sunday, Banerjee addressed the ongoing protests in Bangladesh. She mentioned that West Bengal would remain open to offering shelter to those in distress from the neighbouring country. Similar sentiments were also shared on her X account.

Political Reactions

BJP leader Amit Malviya criticised Banerjee's statements by sharing Mahmud's video on his X handle. He commented, "Mamata Banerjee is a constant source of embarrassment, not just for West Bengal but also for India, now." This criticism adds another layer to the political discourse surrounding Banerjee's remarks.

The Governor's appeal highlights the sensitivity of international relations and the potential impact of domestic political statements on them. It underscores the importance of measured communication in maintaining diplomatic ties.
