West Bengal Assembly Enhances Security Measures Post Lok Sabha Breach
The West Bengal Assembly has bolstered security following a security breach in the Lok Sabha, installing cameras, enforcing stricter entry protocols, and limiting visitor duration.
In response to a recent security breach in the Lok Sabha, the West Bengal Assembly is implementing stricter security measures to ensure the safety of its members and visitors. Speaker Biman Banerjee announced these measures following an emergency meeting held at the state assembly.
Heightened Surveillance
To enhance security, cameras will be installed at all gates of the assembly premises to capture photographs of everyone entering the building. This measure aims to maintain a record of all individuals accessing the assembly.
Stricter Access Control
No members of the assembly, staff, or journalists will be permitted entry without their respective identity cards. The West Gate will be designated exclusively for visitors, who will be allowed to stay within the premises for a maximum of two hours. Previously, visitors were granted access for the entire day. Any visitor found overstaying will be questioned by the police.
Vehicle Restrictions
Vehicles belonging to assembly members will require designated stickers for entry. Additional police personnel will not be allowed inside the assembly lobby, except for security personnel assigned to MLAs.
Chief Minister Reviews Security at Nabanna
In a related development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conducted a surprise inspection of the police arrangements at the state secretariat, Nabanna. She arrived earlier than usual and discovered that several officers responsible for security were absent from their posts. Consequently, she instructed the Director of Security to investigate the matter.
The implementation of these enhanced security measures at the West Bengal Assembly and Nabanna demonstrates the state government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its members, staff, and visitors. These steps aim to prevent any potential security breaches and maintain a secure environment for conducting official business.
