Forty Students Expelled from West Bengal Medical College for Alleged Threats to Peers

Forty students from the state-run College of Medicine and JNM Hospital in Kalyani have been expelled for six months. This action was taken due to allegations of them threatening fellow students, as stated in an official document. The decision emerged from a meeting of the Extended College Council.

40 Students Expelled from Medical College

The council's decision was based on substantial prima facie evidence, individual student testimonies, and digital proof. The minutes of the meeting noted that these students are banned from the hostel, hospital, and college campus for at least six months. However, they can enter the college solely to take exams and participate in further investigations by the Anti-Ragging Committee and Internal Complaint Committee or any special enquiry committee.

Student Welfare Committee Dissolution

During the meeting, it was also agreed to dissolve the Students Welfare Committee until a democratically-elected student body is established. The minutes specified that none of the 40 students would be eligible to run in student body elections. This decision aims to address and eliminate the existing threat culture within the institution.

The document emphasised that such threatening behaviour should cease immediately and never recur. It further stated that neither students nor any student body should influence the examination process.
