Weather warning: Thunderstorm, rain likely to hit Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas within an hour
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday morning issued a thunderstorm warning for Delhi-NCR and surrouning regions. The weather alert states that Thunderstorm with strong winds and rain likely to occur over places in and around Mahendragarh, Kosli, Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Noida and Greater Noida, reported ANI.
Even last evening (May 18), New Delhi and other areas adjoining the national capital were hit by a dust storm and light rain. The National Disaster Management Authority or NDMA had sent an advisory asking people to try and stay indoors.
For the last two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been warning of such storms. On Thursday evening, a thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds and very light rain hit parts of Delhi.
According to reports, intense heat during the day is paving the way for such storms. Thursday's thunderstorm was triggered by the intense heat over northwest India and moisture that is being brought by the easterlies.
Last Sunday (May 13), violent dust storm, followed by rain and lightning had toppled walls and uprooted trees throughout Delhi. Two people were killed in the national capital and 18 were injured in the storm, while one death was reported from Ghaziabad.
